The photo above is NOT in NYC, but rather Philly. The crew for Dead Man Down was shooting on Walnut St between 16th and 17th when S and I were dragging our heels for a cookie macaron break. The street signs were even covered (made finding Miel Patisserie slightly difficult) with these fake NY plates.
Fact: Researchers are conducting a study on Francisella tularensis by measuring the concentration of bacterial agent in the air.
Fact: F. tularensis is commonly found in rabbits.
Fact: An individual was infected with the aerosolized agent after running over a dead rabbit with his lawnmower.
**Redaction: Earlier I had written Brucella melitensis, which is not commonly found in rabbits. Instead, it is found most commonly in goats. “melaaaaaaaaa-tensis.”
All that microbiology teaches me is to be afraid of animals because they carry deadly pathogens. Prairie dogs, which are quite popular here, carry Yersinia pestis AKA plague.
